Marine solar panel

For those who love venturing out in the sea and get a thrill on the choppy waters the marine solar panel is of great use as they can help power most of the appliances that need an electrical charge normally. You can take your boat out with the marine solar panel as your emergency aid and enjoy the solitude of the vast expansive sea.

The marine solar panels are designed for those who use boats for recreation and commercial purposes and provide them with a renewable and secure source of energy. The marine solar panel can charge the batteries to run any appliances with a 12 volt DC such as regular lights, fans, pumps and safety lights.

Adding an inverter helps to run the appliances which have a 12 volt AC such as radio, microwave, satellite dish or radio. The voltmeter allows you to monitor the charge fed into your batteries and will help you to maintain the efficiency of the panels.

The marine solar panels that are available are the rigid and the flexible ones with different installation procedures. It is entirely your choice which one you opt for but ensure that the panels are installed at the highest position on the boat so that it receives maximum energy from the sun. You need to install the marine solar panel considering your boat's configuration and the features available on the panel.

Care needs to be taken to use the marine solar panels as per the directions given in the manual. Any misuse could cost you your warranty. These panels require sturdy braces to hold them securely in place. It is recommended that even if you have decided on the amount of energy that you need it is preferable to add 20% extra.

The marine solar panel helps you to keep the important lights and appliances working normally when a generator refuses to function or the batteries are down. These are also helpful in charging the batteries noiselessly. There are generally 3 types of solar cells used in the marine solar panels and each one has its own plus points. Now, you need to select carefully the cell which best suits your purpose.

The marine solar panels should not be kept in shaded areas as the shaded cells sap the energy of the other adjoining cells. The first type of cells that is used is the monocrystalline ones that have high conversion capabilities and do not use much space but do not have shade protection.

The next type is the polycrystalline cells which have more efficient conversion capacities and use even lesser space but still do not have shade protection. The third is the amorphous silicon cells which need more space, have lower conversion capability but have shade protection and can be useful for a sailboat.

If you use tinned marine grade wire that runs from the panels to the batteries this is the only ideal option. If you are not very sure about the wire that you need to use you should seek help from the experts. Using regular automotive wires are not of much help because it loses its capacity to conduct power in marine conditions.

An autopilot is an electronic device with its high end technology and natural controls that gives you the pleasure of enjoying lunch or reading instruments and charts and even plotting the course. These autopilots are inexpensive as they are powered by solar panels and are more practical to use.

Most of the autopilots have remote hand controls which provide for remote compassing or instrument readouts. They are capable of manning the overboard functioning, dodging the course and also altering the navigation characteristics of the pilot.
