Solar water heating when compared to electric water heating is currently the most cost effective utilization of solar power under current tax codes at current low electrical cost. In many cases the payback time for commercial and or home solar panel energy systems can be less than three years. Heating water in the average home makes up 20% to 30% of the total energy cost, depending on a number of factors. A solar water heater can reduce your energy cost by up to 80% of the cost associated with other water heating methods. The peopele are eligible for both a Federal tax credit of 30% and a State tax credit of 25% (capped at $2,000). The system costs between $5,500 and $7,000 but can be recouped in 3 to 4 years (in most cases).
