Off-grid solar power system

With the increase in concern over the amount of carbon and pollutants in the air and the effects of global warming that are appearing in news reports recently, more and more people are looking for a way to step outside of the traditional box and link up with solar power. This is because solar power is one of the most efficient, renewable, cleanest, energy sources on the planet. The amount of solar energy that is available to us on a continuing basis will not decrease even if every person on the planet installs a solar panel. In fact, it is the one constant in the energy world, and that is why more and more people are looking to solar energy as a viable power supplement. However, there are those who are interested in going a step further and implementing an off-grid solar power system.

The difference between using a solar energy panel as a supplement to your existing energy supply and going to an off-grid solar power system is that in an off-grid system you shut down your supply lines to the electric company completely. For many people who are considering the use of solar energy, this is simply not an option. If you live in a tight urban area or an apartment building, then you will not be able to set up the sheer volume of solar panels needed for you to go to an off-grid solar power system. However, for those people who live out in the country who have a few acres to spare (or if you live in a very sunny area like the states of Nevada or Arizona), then you will not be able to harness enough energy to completely operate all of your household needs and you will have to rely on a connection to the electrical grid as a way of making sure that you have access to the electrical current in emergency situations.

If you are living in a completely off-grid solar power system, then you will not only have solar panels that will operate your electrical needs during the daylight hours, but you will also have to rely on a series of solar batteries that take the sun’s energy run it through an inverter and give it back to you as useful power. You will need more than one solar battery on a truly off-grid solar power system because one battery alone will not be able to store as much energy as you will have to use on a daily basis to sustain your nightly household activities. However, some people have the room and space needed to develop a sustainable off-grid solar power system. For these people they no longer have to rely on the rising costs of utilities as they can run everything on solar energy alone, including their water heaters, space heaters, and even air conditioners.

Hopefully one day as the ability for solar panels to actually collect more and more of the sun’s energy efficiently will become available and as the technology to have an off-grid solar power system on a smaller level develops, more of the world’s population will be capable of running all of their electricity needs. Until that time it is not recommended that you try to operate an off-grid solar power system unless you are in the small percentage of people who have the capabilities to do so. Right now you might think that you could use an off-grid solar power system and that whenever you were incapable of getting the needed amount of solar energy that you could do without altogether, but this is extremely difficult to do. Plus, you should always take into consideration what emergency situations might arise in which you would need power. If you have an off-grid solar power system then there is no way that you could accomplish anything that might need electricity, no matter how badly the situation calls for it.
