Many people are trying to become environmentally friendly with their energy usage so that they can do their part to help out with the effects of greenhouse gasses and global warming. When someone decides to do this, there is also the added bonus of having reduced payments sent in to the large energy corporations. However, one thing that most people do not realize is that there are many different components involved in making your home as energy efficient as possible. One part of this conversion is known as a solar collector tube. This tube is a long round tube that comes tucked inside of another housing in order to protect it.
The solar collector tube is actually a vacuum tube, which means that it is literally empty. There can be multiple solar collector tubes in a single housing, and these tubes will heat up when they are in the presence of solar energy. Once they do this it causes a type of chain reaction in which a mixture of propylene glycol is also heated up so that it can in turn work to either heat up water or work within a specialized space heater that relies on this type of technology. The solar collector tube is considered to be something of a boost to solar being able to harness solar energy because of the fact that they work so much better and can get even hotter than the traditional flat collectors.
The reason that they are considered to be better is because the solar collector tubes are able to actually draw their energy from the sunlight rather than depending on the temperature surrounding them. This makes them more ideal for operating in cooler climates at all portions of the year so that you can more easily have access to the hot water that you need no matter how cold it is outside as long as the solar collector tube has access to sunlight.
Another reason that the design of the solar collector tube is considered to be more advanced than a flat collector is the fact that it can get sunlight from any potential angle because of its roundness. This means that even if the sun is on the far eastern or western horizon you will still be able to get as much out of all of the available solar energy, and this means that the tubes are operating at a peak level of energy efficiency. Some people have complained that the gaps between the solar collector tubes can mean that there is a lost potential to get that much more solar energy. This problem can be easily remedied by placing reflectors in between the tubes so that the sunlight is redirected to the tubes to help increase the intensity of the solar energy collected.
One thing that you will need to make sure of if you are using a solar collector tube to heat up your water is some form of temperature regulation so that you do not end up with water that can scald you. Too many times people underestimate the ability of the solar collector tube to work as efficiently as it does and this can cause some problems. The water can get quite hot and if there is no kind of regulation on the device you are likely to end up with hotter water than you want.
In all, solar collector tubes are just another arsenal that people have in their attempts to make sure that they are being as energy efficient as possible. The system works well and it helps to optimize all of the available solar energy and because of this it is definitely something worth considering.
