The solar hot water heaters comprises of the solar thermal collectors, a fluid system for moving the heat from collector to the point of usage, a reservoir or tank for the heat-storage and subsequent use. The solar hot water heaters are used to heat water, under floor heating, swimming pools or as energy input for space cooling, heating, and industrial applications. In comparison to photovoltaic systems, the solar hot water heaters are more than three to four times efficient in producing hot water from the sun.
Investing in the solar hot water heaters is coast friendly solution as it is offers reliable technology that offers long lasting performance on low maintenance cost. With state, federal, and utility incentives obtainable, the solar hot water heaters offer instant pay back in several cases.
Solar hot water heaters work on the principle where the water surpasses solar panels or solar collector that heats the water in undeviating contact with sun and this energy is utilized for heating the water. The water passes on to the insulated tank, which further conserves the heated hot water for the later usage.
There are some discrepancies in the prime principle of solar hot water heaters: passive and active systems. The passive system includes gravity where as in the active system uses a pump for moving the water from the solar panels or collects to the reservoir or the storage tanks.
There are essentially five types of solar hot water heaters available in the market including:
- Solar Batch heaters
- Thermosyphon
- Open loop direct
- Pressurized glycol
- Closed loop drain back
Components of solar hot water heater
- Some of the common equipments used in the solar hot water systems include:
- Solar collectors
- Solar storage tank/ reservoir
- Collector mounting system
- Water pump
- Solar panels
- Heat exchanger
- Expansion tank
- Controls
- Backup water heater
- Isolate valve
- Tempering valve
Points to remember while buying a solar hot water heater
- Research before buying solar hot water heater; understand what actually a solar hot water heater is and how it could benefit your hot water requirements. The solar hot water heater has been deigned to function with both gas and electric hot water heaters, ensure that your present hot water heater is in nice working condition and is up to code prior to considering the change.
- Analyze numerous companies, which offer solar hot water heaters and make sure to go through all the instructions depending on the existing setup you possess and make out the size of the hot water system you actually need.
- Compare stores, once you are familiar with the working of the solar hot water heaters, shop around for the costs, company reputation form that you are looking to buy the water system and ease of installing the hot water system.
- Buy the solar hot water system of your own choice and ensure that you have full warranty information, the appropriate sizing choice, and full solar hot water heater installation instructions.
The solar hot water heaters not just contribute in saving the future energy efficiency, but also are simple to install and protects the environment around you. With the use of solar water heater, you not only reduce your energy bills but also make sure that you make the best use of renewable resources. So, get the solar water heater and save on electricity bills while making the best use of quality water heating technology. It is an efficient way of reducing power consumption and harnessing natural energy.

I simply installed two of those in my home. That is as a result of I’ve water heaters. I have metropolis water however drain into a septic system. The home is a ranch fashion so it takes a couple of minutes to get hot water into the showers in the morning. After putting in these recirculation pumps I now get hot water in about 13 seconds. I estimate that in our family we will likely be saving at the very least 400 gallons of water a month.
